How long have you been working at Somas?
I have been working at Somas since the summer of 2023.
How did you come to work here?
I enjoy working with sales and export. When I saw that Somas was looking for someone for my position, I applied immediately. It’s an attractive company to work for, and one with a good reputation. I was delighted to find out that I had got the job!
What is a “typical” working day like for you?
As a Project Engineer in Somas’ Marketing Department, I am involved in preparing large quotations regarding projects for customers all over the world. This can include anything from the construction of a new paper machine for a mill in France, to the building of a ship in China. A lot of people need our valves!
What’s the best thing about your job?
It’s instructive and interesting. I also appreciate the short decision-making pathways and being surrounded by pleasant and extremely knowledgeable colleagues. There is a wonderful atmosphere in the office, and the working environment is highly professional. The fact that the company is privately owned means that the structure is a little different compared to companies where the owners are located a long way away and/or in other countries. The entrepreneurial spirit is alive here, which I really like!
What’s the biggest challenge with your job?
Since I’m still so new in this job, the biggest challenge is learning more about the different opportunities, functions and uses of our products. In this way, I will be better able to help the company in its continued progress!
Is there anything in particular you have done or been involved in at Somas that stands out even more?
As I said, I’m still very new, so I haven’t had time to do anything particularly special yet. One thing that does stand out, however, is the enjoyable environment and all my welcoming, helpful colleagues. Laughter is never far away.
What do you like doing in your spare time?
I play golf, carry out renovations in my house and have recently started battling with my overgrown garden. I also enjoy cooking for long weekend dinners with family and friends, going for walks in the woods with my dog and travelling as often as I can.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to work in your industry?
If you see a position at Somas that might suit you, apply for it! You won’t regret it.

Who am I: I grew up in Bengtsfors, with a Swedish father and mother from Northern Ireland. I left home to start studying, and since then have lived abroad for 27 years in various countries. I moved home to Bengtsfors about 5 years ago, have worked as a part-time carpenter since then and have renovated my grandmother’s house, but that career is now over 😊 I have three children and an incredibly charming Jack Russell, who follows me everywhere. I like to travel, play golf, spend time in the woods and garden, and enjoy long, pleasant weekend dinners with friends and family. When I have time to myself now in the winter, I pour myself a glass of wine, put on Swedish jazz and do jigsaw puzzles 😂!
