How long have you been working at Somas?
I have been working at Somas since February 2023.
How did you come to work here?
I have always been interested in IT within industry. When the time came for me to change jobs, I got in touch with a recruitment company that Somas had hired to find reinforcements for their IT department. That was the start of a dialogue, and a few months later I was hired.
What is a “typical” working day like for you?
It’s often a combination of various meetings and practical work. What follows on from these elements can vary greatly from day to day. Everything from discussing system requirements for future investments and solutions, to resolving more urgent IT issues as they arise.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The fact that I get to help my colleagues in their day-to-day work. Managing to resolve a problem that makes someone else’s working day easier is incredibly rewarding. It’s also great to have solutions-oriented and helpful colleagues around you.
What’s the biggest challenge with your job?
IT is a support process, so I need to keep track of the business and the specific problems I will be involved in resolving. However, I also have to consider the bigger picture, which in turn is a moving target. This is the biggest challenge, especially for someone like me who is so “new” to Somas.
Is there anything in particular you have done or been involved in at Somas that stands out even more?
I’m involved in the replacement of Somas’ business system, which certainly isn’t something that can be done overnight. But it’s fun!
What do you like doing in your spare time?
My spare time revolves a lot around my family, but also music. I play the drums in two bands, as well as playing at home. In line with my interest in technology, I’ve also become obsessed with old computers and home automation. I consider this to be great fun, but it’s not always appreciated to the same extent by others in the home. (laughs)
What advice would you give to someone who wants to work in your industry?
I believe it is important to be curious, responsive and humble. The IT sector is constantly changing, and you should never consider that you have learned all there is to learn.
