Marketing Communication Manager – Jessica Johnsson
with passion.”
How long have you been working at Somas?
I have been working at Somas since the autumn of 2015. Now as I reflect on the years that I have been in Säffle, I can state that the time has passed quickly.
How did you come to work here?
I had heard about Somas and was curious about the company. I was on maternity leave at the time, living in Gothenburg. Almost by chance, it feels, an open application gave rise to an interview, eventually an offer of a position, and suddenly I was swapping Gothenburg for Säffle.
What is a “typical” working day like for you?
It can vary enormously. Sometimes I can be involved in major projects or planning for exhibitions, etc. On other days, the focus might be on creating advertisements. One thing that strikes me in my work is the fact that communication is never something you are “done” with. It’s always possible to do more or to become better.
Here at Somas, the Marketing Communications department comprises a total of five people who work together with everything from technical documentation, the website, planning ahead of exhibitions, advertising, newsletters, social media, etc.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The mix of work duties suits me perfectly, and is something I really appreciate and like.
I can be immersed in something technical on one day and then representing Somas in some network the next.
What’s the biggest challenge with your job?
Knowing what the recipient wants. What kind of information the reader wants in the situation they find themselves in. Having an “outside-in” perspective when it comes to communication is a difficult challenge – albeit a fun one. In other words, creating information for the audience and not just producing content based on what we at Somas want to say. This is a difficult balance, yet it is a significant part of the charm of my job, of course.
Is there anything in particular you have done or been involved in at Somas that stands out even more?
I think most of what I do is special and fun. I have been involved in building Somas’ website, however, and have also been involved in the work of building/introducing our Intranet. This has been both challenging and fun!
What do you like doing in your spare time?
I like to be out in the woods and fields, preferably in the company of a hairy, four-legged friend. I wish that exercise was higher up in the list of things I “like to do in my spare time”, but I really enjoy the exercise I get to do. The latest thing I have started doing is trying to coordinate my arms and legs into something resembling karate.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to work in your industry?
First and foremost, I would say that “our industry is fun”. It’s exciting because there’s so much going on. We are also involved in a wide range of industries, so what is going on in one industry can differ greatly from the next. Here at Somas, we are all curious about the future and do our job with passion. That’s what I appreciate most of all about working here – all my fantastic colleagues and the energy that is front and centre!
Who am I:
Name: Jessica Johnsson
Title: Marketing Communication Manager
Who am I: Mother of two, originally from Färgelanda, studied to become a mechanical engineer at the University of Trollhättan, moved to Gothenburg immediately thereafter. In 2015, my road (and perhaps chance) led to Säffle and employment at Somas. I love adventure and sometimes dream of skiing in powder snow in the Alps, even though these days it’s mostly a case of everyday adventures like shovelling snow or picking up the kids on time. I have thoughts and visions of exercising more, but I realise that my exercise is more a case of rehab training rather than really tough gym sessions.
